Principal’s message
Welcome back to Term 2!
Our staff commenced with a School Development Day on High Potential, Gifted Education. We hope to be able to assist students who demonstrate exceptional abilities or potential with a focus on differentiation in the classroom.
The colder weather is upon us now so please ensure that your children are wearing winter uniform. Label all jumpers and jackets with your child's name as there are so many unclaimed items in lost property. Please reach out to the uniform shop if you wish to stock up on winter uniforms.
There is always something happening at North Ryde Public School and this term is no different. PSSA Winter Sport commences this week and I know that our students will be very excited to test their sporting prowess each Friday. Good luck to all PSSA sport teams!
SportsPro has commenced for students in Years 2-6. The team from SportsPro will be developing athletics skills in students in preparation for our Athletics Carnival in Term 3.
Members of the bands will be having a band workshop next door at St John's Anglican Church on Monday 19th May. Look out for more details shortly.
Stage 1 have an excursion to Field of Mars to complement work done in class. this will occur on Monday 12th May.
Stage 2 students will head to Field of Mars on Monday 26th May for their excursion.
Also, I wish good luck to Pippa Wang and Keira Cheung who will represent our school at the Ryde Public Speaking Competition on Wednesday 7th May.
Our P&C have already got their teams in motion with the Election BBQ, Cake Stall and Plant Sale last weekend. They have also been busy organising the Mothers' Day Stall, which will be held in the hall tomorrow, Wednesday 7th May. Thank you to all the hardworking parents! There were so many of you at the Election BBQ and I also appreciate the support of our students and ex-students at this event. We are so lucky to have your support!
For further events, please check our Term 2 Parent Calendar contained in this newsletter.

Principal
Early in Term 2, North Ryde Public School will be involved in External Validation (Thursday 22nd May).
North Ryde Public School is committed to ensuring a smooth and effective External Validation process, which is an important component of our continuous improvement journey. This process allows us to engage constructively with external evaluators to reflect on our practices, achievements, and areas for growth. We have gathered evidence to identify our strengths and challenges. This collaborative approach will inform the development of a comprehensive self-assessment report, highlighting our accomplishments and setting clear goals for future improvements.
As we move forward, our school leadership team in collaboration with the staff and school community will implement a 4 year strategic plan to address the key focus areas identified during the self-assessment. We will establish timelines for specific initiatives and engage our staff in professional development opportunities to enhance their skills and practices. Regular updates will be shared with the parent community to keep everyone informed of our progress and to invite further feedback. By fostering open communication and collaboration, we aim to ensure that the External Validation process not only strengthens our school but also enhances the educational experience for all students at North Ryde Public School.
Dear parents and carers,
We know that sometimes it can be challenge getting your child to school, especially if they are experiencing anxiety or are refusing to attend school.
They might be worried about their schoolwork, talking with other kids or teachers, playing sports or being away from their family. If you are concerned about your child's attendance at school or any other issues that may affect their attendance, please reach out to me or one of your child’s teachers.
We are here to support you and your child to make sure they are ready and engaged at school.
You can also access resources on the department website to support positive conversations with your child about attending school.
Kind regards
Rob Francis

At the end of last term, we held our ANZAC Day ceremony. It was a pleasure to have Mr Peter Colthorpe from North Ryde RSL talk to our students. We deeply appreciate his attendance.

It was an honour to attend the morning service on ANZAC Day at North Ryde RSL with our school leaders. The leaders laid a wreath in memory of all our soldiers.
Thank you to the students and their parents for their attendance.

I had a wonderful visit to my office from Evan, Jacob and Asher of Class KM.
They showed me the wonderful writing they had produced and they all read me their wonderful stories.
I am amazed that these lovely Kindergarten students have learnt so much in ten weeks of learning.
Congratulations on your super efforts!
In Class 1C, students have been learning about different landscapes such as Savannah and the Antarctic. They were asked to create a diorama to show their learning. When questioned, all students could discuss important information about the landscape they researched and the animals that live there. Their schemas for this learning was well-developed. Emma, Elise, Ethan, Joseph, Parker and Samir spoke clearly and with great knowledge. Well done, 1C!

President’s Update
Term 2 has started with a bang and there's lots on!
On Saturday we held a fantastic Election BBQ fundraiser. Many thanks to Liz, Linda and Nadia for coordinating and running our BBQ, Cake Stall and Plant stall. A very big thanks to the parents, students and former students who volunteered and served some of our awesome NRPS hospitality to our local community. It was one of our most successful Election BBQ's in years!
Week 2 brings the P&C's Mother's Day Stall. Thanks to Jess and the team of volunteers who are putting this together. Look out for the parcels of love coming home with your kids on Wednesday.
The Band Workshop is also coming up soon in May. The P&C are subsidising costs of this day for our budding musicians across years 3-6 as they master their music together.
After a great response to the return of Canteen in Term 1, it will be continuing on Fridays. If you have time to help out for an hour on a Friday to distribute orders, please email Amelia on pccanteen@nrps.org.au.
Finally, dine out in May and support the NRPS P&C. Grilld Top Ryde has Local Matters fundraising program, and for the month of May, NRPS P&C have a fundraising jar. Order meals and use your tokens to vote for NRPS. If you're still hungry, on 16th May Dominoes North Ryde are hosting a DoughRaiser where $1 from every pizza sold will be donated to the NRPS P&C. Bring your appetites!
If you'd like to have a say in what our fundraising goes towards, or would like to become more involved in P&C activities, please join us at our next P&C meeting. The P&C will be meeting on Tuesday 13th May in the staffroom and online via Teams (details below).
- Date: Tuesday, May 13, 2025
- Time: 6:30 – 8:00 PM

Mother’s Day Stall – Tomorrow!
Our annual Mother’s Day Stall is happening tomorrow, Wednesday 7th May, in the school hall during school hours. This is a wonderful opportunity for students to choose a special gift for their mum or another important person in their lives.
How it works:
- The stall will be open Wednesday, 7th May in the school hall.
- 8 different gift bag bundles will be available to choose from.
- Each gift bag is priced at $10.
- Students can purchase more than one gift — perfect for siblings or other special people.
Payment options:
- If you’ve pre-purchased through MySchoolConnect, your child will receive a token to exchange for a gift bag.
- Cash sales are welcome on the day—students just need to bring $10 per gift to the hall (pending stock availability).
Organisation on the day:
- Students will attend the stall in their house colour groups, so siblings can shop together.
- A small selection of gifts not specific to mums will also be available.
- We can’t wait to see the joy on the kids' faces as they choose something meaningful to gift!

Welcome back to term 2. The children are starting to change into more warmer clothes options. Please label their jumpers as they generally take them off while playing and leave them in the playground. All clearly labelled jumpers do get returned from the lost property.
Some of the winter options to keep the children warm include our 3 types of jumpers, the sloppy joe, a polar fleece and a tracksuit jacket. We also have a long sleeve polo available that are the same size fitting as the jade T-Shirt. Navy fleece scarfs are also available to purchase.
Soccer socks have arrived if you need them for the PSSA soccer team. I'll endeavour to get your order sent to the classroom early on Friday morning for this week's game.
Orders can be made on My School Connect app or web version.

New pedestrian safety decals around schools
Parents!
Children learn safe road user habits from you and will continue them when they are old enough to travel alone.
Remember this simple message and share it with them whenever you are crossing a road, driveway or car park:
STOP! one step back from the kerb.
LOOK! both ways!
LISTEN! for the sounds of approaching traffic.
THINK! is it safe to cross?
