As we move toward the end of Term 2, our school community is enjoying what promises to be an exciting and eventful few weeks.
We are delighted to be welcoming Joshua Pate—pain scientist, children’s author and educator—on Wednesday 18 June. Joshua will be leading an interactive science session designed to spark curiosity and a love of learning in our students. It’s sure to be both enjoyable and memorable.
Another much-anticipated event is the P&C Disco, happening on Wednesday 2 July. This is always a highlight for students and a wonderful way to celebrate the term with music, dancing, and lots of laughter. Tickets are available now, so don’t forget to secure yours.
Families are also reminded that students are encouraged to submit their merit certificates in time for the Principal’s Medallion Ceremony in Week 10. These assemblies provide a special opportunity to acknowledge students who have consistently demonstrated effort, growth, and positive behaviour throughout the term.
In classrooms, teachers and students have been working diligently to complete summative assessments in preparation for mid-semester reports. These reports, which will be sent home on Thursday of Week 10, offer valuable insights into each child’s progress and achievements so far this year.
I would also like to take a moment to acknowledge the fantastic work of our P&C and two of our Year 1 dads, Yaser and Rej, who kindly volunteered their time over the long weekend to install new soccer nets on Playground B. Soccer is a favourite lunchtime activity, and the new nets have already had plenty of enthusiastic use. I'd also like to acknowledge our extremely productive Environment Coorindator, Linda and her team of helpers who did a remarkable job of cleaning up the school grounds. Take a look at the photos in the P&C report that follows. Their work is impressive!
Thank you for your continued support. We are proud of what our students have achieved so far this term and look forward to a joyful and productive finish.
Kind regards,
Erin Taggart

SRC - Fundraiser - Fiver For the Floods
Fundraiser-Fiver For The Floods
After the devastating floods last week affecting the Hunter and the Mid-North Coast regions, the SRC are organising a fundraiser to help.
On Thursday, the 26th June (Week Nine) we are holding a ‘Fiver For The Floods’ day. We are encouraging all students to dress in warm mufti clothes and to donate five dollars to help these poor suffering families. Every student participating will also receive a Quelch ice block.
We hope every student supports this fundraiser.
Congratulations to our 64 amazing athletes who ran at the Zone Cross Country on Monday 2 June at Meadowbank Park. We are so proud of all of you. You all competed to the best of your ability and represented North Ryde Public School with pride.
Each race had approximately 144 students and we had to compete against the other 17 schools in our zone.
We had 8 teams of students and the 8/9 year old boys’ team were runners-up.
Outstanding individual achievements:
8/9 year girls – Eva Agarwal 11th
8/9 year boys – Leo Kingsley 6th, Samuel Neall 9th, Jack Giles 26th
10 year girls- Hana Faridi 35th after being knocked over at the start
10 year boys – James Gill 11th, Samuel Van Gorp 17th, Nate Wang 29th
11 year boys – Ethan Moyo 24th, Shaun Tennakoon 26th
12 year girls- Pippa Wang 4th, Keira Cheung 12th
12/13 year boys – John Stewart 4th, Sebastian Choi 30th
Three of our students- Leo Kingsley, Pippa Wang and John Stewart, will now represent Ryde Zone at the Sydney North Cross Country Carnival at Wyong on Friday 13 June.
We wish them the very best of luck.
On Friday 13 June Pippa Wang, John Stewart and Leo Kingsley represented Ryde Zone at the Sydney North Cross Country Carnival at Wyong. Pippa finished 50th, John finished 28th and Leo finished 33rd out of 138 primary schools. Congratulations and well done on a fantastic effort.
Stage 3 Mathematics - Measuring Angles
Stage 3 got creative in the classroom with angles! In pairs, students used a whiteboard marker and ruler, to draw and measure each other's angles using protractors on their desks. They drew a mixture of acute, obtuse and reflex angles.
President’s Update
It's going to be a big end to the term - I hope everyone has their tickets to the Trivia night (coming up this Saturday 21st) and to the School Disco (on 2nd July). Both promise to be great fun!
Thanks to our parents and carers who've been working hard over the last couple of weekends installing soccer nets and putting in the elbow grease to clean and tidy our school at the Working Bee. Your efforts are greatly appreciated. Many thanks to Nicole, Linda and the team of dedicated parents who have made this happen.
If you are looking for a new way to be involved, would you consider taking on the P&C Band Coordinator role or the P&C Uniform Shop Coordinator role for 2026? As our current role holders will be stepping down at the end of this year, we need new helpers. At the halfway point of the year, this would be a great time to volunteer as you can have a full 6 months handover from the current Coordinators to make the transition easy.
- Band Coordinator - no musical experience is needed - just a willingness to support our wonderful band program and help things run smoothly behind the scenes. To make the transition easy, we'd love for someone to get involved this year as a Parent Liaison, so you can learn the ropes and receive a full handover from our current coordinator. Email Karen at pcband@nrps.org.au if you'd like to know more.
- Uniform Shop Coordinator - Help to run our uniform shop by packing parent orders, arranging try-on days and managing stock. No retail experience is needed - plus there are 3 current and former role holders on the P&C who can provide full mentoring. If you'd like more information, email Mel at pcuniformshop@nrps.org.au.
Please join us at our upcoming P&C meeting on Tuesday 17th June - we'll be meeting in the staffroom at 6.30pm, or join us online via Teams.
Look out for P&C news through the newsletter, watching out for notices on SchoolBytes and by joining our North Ryde Public School P&C group on Facebook. Or feel free to contact the P&C directly via pcpresident@nrps.org.au.

Ethics
What Are We Talking About in Ethics?
Here’s a snapshot of the thought-provoking discussions happening in our Ethics classes:
Year 1 – What Do Animals Need?
Students are exploring what pets need to be happy. Do all pets need the same things? Is it just as important to play with a pet fish as it is with a dog? And is it okay to keep a wild animal as a pet?
Year 2 – Understanding Empathy
This topic encourages students to consider how others might feel by imagining themselves in similar situations. It’s a great opportunity to practice empathy and perspective-taking.
Years 3 & 4 – Is Lying Always Wrong?
Students are debating the ethics of lying. What counts as a lie? Is staying silent or not telling the whole truth the same as lying? And are there times when lying might be acceptable—like to protect someone’s feelings?
Reminder: Volunteer Ethics Teachers Needed
We are still seeking volunteers to teach Ethics classes for Kindergarten and Stage 3 students. Currently, more families are choosing Ethics than we have volunteers available, resulting in a waitlist for classes.
If you can spare just half an hour on Thursday mornings, or know a friend or grandparent who might be interested, we’d love to hear from you.
For more information on how you can help, please contact Liz at pcethics@nrps.org.au.

Working Bee Sunday 15th June - Huge Thank You to Our Working Bee Volunteers!
A heartfelt thank you to all the wonderful volunteers who gave up part of their weekend to join us at our Working Bee. Your time, energy, and dedication are truly appreciated, and the improvements around the school are a testament to your hard work.
From the incredible canteen team who tackled organisation, cleaning, and sorting, to the enthusiastic pressure-washing trio - Leon, Bree and Hamed - whose determination knew no bounds, and the tireless gardening crew who weeded, trimmed, swept, and spread mountains of mulch... every contribution made a meaningful impact.

Calling for Volunteers
The uniform shop packs and delivers uniform orders weekly. I am wanting to create a roster of Parents to help me once a week, usually on a Friday morning pack the orders, it takes less than an hour at school drop-off time.
We also have random events usually once a term, like the second hand sale and then helping new parents navigate the winter uniform and new kindergarten parents.
If you are interested and available please email me pcuniformshop@nrps.org.au
Price Rises
Unfortunately, we are having to increase our prices on a lot of items between $1-$4 dollars. This is because our supply costs have increased substantially over the last two years. This will be the only Price rise this year and will be implemented on the first day of Term 3 (21st July 2025). Below is a list of the price increases that was agreed at the P&C Meeting on Tuesday.
Uniform shop returns and exchanges
If you have an item that you ordered that doesn't fit correctly (excluding hats), please email us. Then take it to the school office, with a note attached, asking for the item to be refunded or exchanged for size. We can exchange or refund from 30 days of purchase. Items must be unworn and still have the tags attached.

Below is the Parent Calendar for Term 2 2025. Please note a change to the date of the Principal's Medallion Assembly.
Dear Parents and Carers,
In Term 2, it remains important that your child attends school every single day. Being at school is the best place for students to learn as well as to keep social connections and build life-long skills.
We understand that families are eager to see and reconnect with loved ones and take a well-deserved break, but please remember that planned travel should only be taken during scheduled school holidays.
Students should be at school every day during school terms, unless they are sick or are absent for a justified reason.
Missing a day here or there may not seem like much, but absences add up and can negatively impact your child's learning and wellbeing. When your child misses one day a week, that’s 40 days of school and 8 weeks of learning in one year. Over an entire school journey this adds up to 2.5 years of lost learning.
We want to do everything we can to help all students be at school every single day, because every day counts. If you have any concerns or questions please talk to me, the front office staff or your class teacher.
Kind regards
Erin Taggart
Rel. Principal
