Stage 1 - Field of Mars Excursion - Exploring Our World Through Geography
This semester, all classes have been trialling new Geography units based on the updated Human Society and its Environment curriculum. This revamped syllabus places a greater emphasis on reflecting our students’ local communities while exploring the world through various times and places.
One of the key components of the new curriculum is the development of knowledge and understanding about Aboriginal Peoples’ Histories, Cultures, and Languages, as well as the important relationships that Aboriginal Peoples have with Country. Through this lens, your child will engage with significant stories, objects, and sites, enhancing their understanding of Australia’s democracy and the nation's development over time.
For Stage 1 students, this term's focus is on 'Water environments' within our local community and across Australia. They are learning to identify both freshwater and saltwater bodies, while also recognising the vital ways we use and care for these precious resources.
As a hands-on component of their learning, all Stage 1 students recently had the opportunity to visit Sugarloaf Point and the Lane Cove River, accompanied by teachers from the Field of Mars Education Centre. This excursion allowed students to experience these environments firsthand, fostering a deeper appreciation and understanding of our natural world.
We look forward to continuing this journey of exploration and learning with your child, and we are excited to see how they grow in their understanding of geography and the significant role it plays in our lives.
If you want to see more about the excursion please come to this week's assembly where we will be sharing a short video.
