Stage 2 Excursion - Field of Mars Challenge Day
On Monday 26 May, Stage 2 students took part in the Challenge+ Excursion at the Field of Mars Environmental Education Centre to complement our PDHPE focus on building interpersonal skills through hands-on challenges. Each class rotated through three outdoor activities: the Orienteering Photo Rally, Fort Building (Owls and Possums), and the Challenge Bushwalk.
During the Orienteering Photo Rally, students worked in small groups using maps and iPads to navigate the bush and solve clues. They practiced listening to each other’s ideas, making decisions together, and staying patient while working as a team to complete the task within a given timeframe. As they found each clue, they took photos to record their progress.
In Fort Building, teams designed and constructed shelters from natural materials to protect themselves from a water cannon attack. Students explored the importance of planning, sharing responsibilities, and encouraging each other to work towards a common goal.
The Challenge Bushwalk encouraged students to slow down and connect with nature using their senses. A highlight was the blindfolded string trail, where students had to be resilient as they relied on their sense of touch to complete the challenge.
Stage 2 had a fantastic day putting their communication, leadership, and teamwork skills into action. If you’d like to hear more about the excursion, please join us at this week’s assembly.
