A New Way of Learning History at Our School
From 2027, all NSW primary schools will teach the new HSIE K–6 syllabus, combining History and Geography into one connected subject.
What’s changing?

One integrated subject with clear links across year levels.

New topics – including ancient civilizations, civics, and in-depth Aboriginal histories.

Real-world skills like reading maps, graphs, and data.

Taught through clear, step-by-step explicit lessons.
Why the change?
To give every student a strong foundation of knowledge, make learning consistent, and ensure important topics are taught in every classroom.
When will it start?

NSW schools prepare in 2025–2026.

New syllabus begins in 2027.
