Principal’s message
NAPLAN Tests for students in Years 3 and 5 have concluded for this year. I will update you on the results as they come to hand.
Parent-Student - Teacher Interviews are currently happening (Monday 31st March - Wednesday 2nd April). Please take this opportunity to learn about your child's areas of strength and growth. They will also highlight areas of need if required.
The Woolworths Cricket Blast Clinics commenced on Monday March 17 and continue for the next three Mondays from Weeks 8-11 (Monday, March 17, 24, 31 and April 7). Impressively, we have 66 students who signed up for this free program.
A reminder that tomorrow, Thursday 3rd April is the Principal's Medallion Assembly. Parents are most welcome to join us. Several students will be presented with their medallions for their efforts.
Term 1 ends with a bang in Week 11 with the school Cross Country Carnival at school on Tuesday 8th April, the K-2 Easter Hat Parade along with the drawing of the Easter Raffle on Wednesday 9th April and our ANZAC Ceremony on Thursday 10th April.
As this is the last newsletter for Term 1, I would like to thank students and staff for their hard work this term and also to parents and the community for their support.
Have a safe but enjoyable break!
Rob Francis
Principal
Early in Term 2, North Ryde Public School will be involved in External Validation (Thursday 22nd May).
North Ryde Public School is committed to ensuring a smooth and effective External Validation process, which is an important component of our continuous improvement journey. This process allows us to engage constructively with external evaluators to reflect on our practices, achievements, and areas for growth. We will begin by gathering evidence to identify our strengths and challenges. This collaborative approach will inform the development of a comprehensive self-assessment report, highlighting our accomplishments and setting clear goals for future improvements.
As we move forward, our school leadership team will implement a 4 year strategic plan to address the key focus areas identified during the self-assessment. We will establish timelines for specific initiatives and engage our staff in professional development opportunities to enhance their skills and practices. Regular updates will be shared with the parent community to keep everyone informed of our progress and to invite further feedback. By fostering open communication and collaboration, we aim to ensure that the External Validation process not only strengthens our school but also enhances the educational experience for all students at North Ryde Public School.
Dear parents and carers,
We want to do all we can to be sure your child achieves their potential and enjoys being in school.
We know that school is the best place to learn. By attending school every day your child will get the most out of their learning and improve their career and life options.
When your child is absent it is important you let the school know, including the reason why, on the day or the day before. This helps make sure we know where our students are and offer support for you and your family if needed.
If you are having trouble getting your child to school every day or on time, please talk to our school staff so we can work together, because every day counts.
Missing a day here or there may not seem like much, but absences add up and can negatively impact your child’s learning and wellbeing. When your child misses one day a week that’s 40 days of school and 8 weeks of learning in one year. Over an entire school journey this adds up to 2.5 years of lost learning.
Please contact the school if your child needs to miss school for any reason, so we can plan continued support for your child’s learning and wellbeing.
Kind Regards
Rob Francis
Principal
Our aim is to have every child attending school at least 90% of the time if not above that target. To achieve the target, students would need to be absent for less than 20 days each year.
I would appreciate your support in trying to achieve this target.
Current Attendance rate = 95.6% |

On Thursday 20th March, we celebrated Harmony Day.
Children atended wearing orange and an array of wonderful cultural costumes. It was so wonderful to see.
As an added bonus, we raised $296 for the Save the Children Charity!
Thank you, North Ryde Public School and congratulations on a successful day.
My thanks goes to Mrs Harper, Ms Bhumika and Ms Lin for their organisation of the day.
Last Tuesday 25th March, our Year 6 students attended Young Leaders Day with Mrs Byatt and Miss Jiang.
Students listened to a range of speaker such as Anthony "Harries" Carroll from Bondi rescue and Olympic swimmer "Emma McKeon. This involved question times, short videos, learning exercises, student involvement, music and student interaction.
The program is designed to benefit any student who shows an interest in developing their leadership potential and I'm sure that our students came away with some great leadership strategies.
Ryde Network Student Voice Day
Last Wednesday, 26th March, Pippa Wang and Keira Cheung attended a special Ryde Network Student Voice Day with Mr Hooker our Director, Educational Leadership.
Mr Hooker talked about the need to meet with the Student Voice Team each term to discuss issues that are common to all schools.
They discussed issues such as transitions like entering Kindergarten and moving from Year 6 to Year 7.
As well, they voted one student from the group to go to the Metropolitan North Student Representative Council.
They were rewarded for their efforts with a yummy morning tea consisting of muffins, cookies and fruit.
Congratulations on a very successful day, Pippa and Keira!
As Term 1 comes to a close, it's time to celebrate with all the chocolate-goodness of the Easter Raffle and Easter Egg guessing competition. If you haven't already, jump online to MySchoolConnect to grab raffle tickets. Many thanks to Liz and the team of volunteers who have coordinated such a great selection of prizes to win and packed so many jars of eggs. Thanks also to the parents who donated Easter Eggs to make it possible. Good luck to the kids with their guessing this week!
The P&C held our second meeting of the year in Week 8. Thank you to all who joined us (and persevered with some technical difficulties). In exciting news, our fundraising efforts are about to be put to very good use. As a major project for this year, the P&C have agreed to help fund the cost of installing air conditioning in the school hall! This will be a great benefit to students year-round and a welcome relief to parents attending cold winter assemblies or hot summer presentation days.
Thanks also to Mel and the volunteers who are opening the Uniform Shop for winter uniform fittings this Friday morning. It will become noticeably cooler in Term 2, so drop in if you need sizing assistance or uniform advice.
To follow what's going on with the P&C, please join our Facebook group "North Ryde Public School P&C", look out for messages over SchoolBytes or email pcpresident@nrps.org.au. We're always looking for volunteers, so please let us know if there are ways you'd like to help.
On behalf of the P&C, I hope you all enjoy a wonderful Easter holiday break.

We had a few parents come to the uniform shop for winter fittings help last Friday. Thank you to Metinee and Kerry for helping in the shop.
We are again open for help with the winter uniform options and sizes this Friday 4th of April 8.30-9.15am if you would like some help or to look at the second-hand items. Orders can be placed on My School Connect.
As the weather changes, the children tend to go to school with a jumper and home without a jumper. They take it off in the classroom or while playing outside. Please remember to label especially hats and jumpers so they find their way back to your child.
We have a new supply of hair accessories available on My School Connect.
Thanks!

Ethics Term 1 - What are we talking about?
Stage 1 – Years 1 & 2: Being similar and being different
Our Stage 1 students are exploring being similar and being different. Being able to make distinctions – to work out what is similar and what is different between two things – is another important skill. It can help us to form concepts, which can be used when reasoning about something. For example, reflecting on the similarities and differences between pets and wild animals can help students begin to form an understanding of what it means for something to be a pet. This topic is a chance for students to practice identifying similarities and differences and to start thinking about whether there are some things that all people have in common.
We always need more volunteers
More families choose ethics than we have volunteers to teach the classes. We currently have four classes of children on a waitlist. If you can spare half and hour on Thursday mornings, or know of friends or grandparents who could, contact pcethics@nrps.org.au or visit https://primaryethics.com.au/volunteer/

The event is open to the local and broader community, university and school students. Students, their parents and siblings, and the many residents and businesses of the area will be invited to enter the eFun Run, paying a small entry donation.
Entrants nominate a distance they will challenge themselves to cover during the week. They can walk, run or ride a bike in their own time, at their own pace, individually or in a team.
Each entrant or team can seek sponsorship for their challenge from their families, friends and colleagues through the eFun Run website:

New pedestrian safety decals around schools
Parents!
Children learn safe road user habits from you and will continue them when they are old enough to travel alone.
Remember this simple message and share it with them whenever you are crossing a road, driveway or car park:
STOP! one step back from the kerb.
LOOK! both ways!
LISTEN! for the sounds of approaching traffic.
THINK! is it safe to cross?
