- BRICKS 4 KIDZ Term 3 After School Class

As we reach the end of Term 2 and the halfway point of the school year, it’s a wonderful opportunity to reflect on the many achievements and successes we have celebrated as a school community over the past semester. I am incredibly proud of the efforts, enthusiasm and growth shown by our students across so many areas of school life.
This term has seen outstanding student participation and achievement across a range of fields. From sporting competitions and academic challenges to public speaking events, leadership initiatives and performing arts showcases, our students have consistently demonstrated commitment, confidence and pride in their efforts. Their hard work is also evident in the Semester 1 student reports, which reflect strong learning progress and personal development.
I would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank our parent community for your ongoing support throughout the term. Whether it’s assisting with fundraising initiatives, volunteering time, or rolling up your sleeves for our recent school clean-up efforts, your contributions have made a tangible and valued difference to our school environment.
I would also like to take a moment to acknowledge the incredible professionalism and dedication of our staff. Their commitment to student learning and wellbeing is evident not only in the quality teaching and care provided in classrooms each day, but also in the many additional responsibilities they take on. From coaching sports teams and directing performances to mentoring student leaders and coordinating extra-curricular programs, our staff consistently go above and beyond to create rich and rewarding experiences for our students. Their efforts are fundamental to the vibrant culture and success of our school.
Looking ahead, Term 3 promises to be another exciting and eventful term. We have a number of key events on the calendar that will provide opportunities for student engagement, celebration and connection with our school community. Highlights include our Athletics Carnival, Education Week Open Day, Book Week celebrations, and the continuation of the K–1 SportsPro program. Stage 3 students will also head off on their much-anticipated school camp, and our school choirs will showcase their talents in upcoming performances. We look forward to sharing these moments with students and families.
As we head into the school holidays, I encourage all students and families to take time to rest, recharge and enjoy a safe and happy break. We look forward to welcoming everyone back in Term 3, ready for another term of learning, growth and opportunity.
Kind regards,
Erin Taggart
Relieving Principal
On Friday 27 June and Sunday 29 June, our talented Performance Dance Group participated in the Sydney North Dance Festival at Glen Street Theatre. They performed an electrifying routine to "Holding Out for a Hero." Dressed in vibrant superhero costumes complete with capes and masks, the students showcased their incredible energy and enthusiasm. Their dynamic performance captivated the audience, celebrating the spirit of heroism and teamwork. A huge congratulations to our dancers for their hard work and dedication as well as thanks to Miss Baptist and Miss Clark for their support of this program—truly a heroic effort by all!

Early Stage 1
Early in the year, Early Stage 1 students explored how plants and animals satisfy our needs by providing us with resources for clothing and shelter. They identified a variety of plants and animals and the products they provide.
This term, students explored how objects move by rolling or sliding. Using playdough, they created shapes that roll and then flattened them to observe changes. The key understanding that round objects roll, due to their curved surfaces, while flat objects slide is introduced. Students investigated classroom objects on a ramp recording whether they roll, slide or do both.

Stage 1
In Term 1, Stage 1 students designed their own feeders, applying their understanding of birds’ needs and reflecting on their designs. Students were encouraged to think critically about the needs of animals and how they can support them in their local environments.
This term students observed a range of materials that bend, stretch and twist and they identified these as flexible or elastic materials. They enjoyed ending the term creating a character using modelling materials.

Stage 2
Working with a classmate or small group, the students created their own Light Rays Maze game in Term 1. They worked on making light travel around corners by using mirrors, books and a torch.
This term students followed the Design and Production process, planned a class design brief and collaborated as a group to construct and build a strong bridge using available materials.

Stage 3
This semester, Stage 3 students enjoyed learning about electrical circuits by building them. They modified their circuits, predicted and observed the results. Finally, they learned how circuits are designed and symbolised in the real world and considered why there needs to be a universal way of representing each component.

Dr Joshua W. Pate
In week 8, we were very lucky to have Dr Joshua W. Pate visit North Ryde to speak to students about chronic pain. Josh is a pain scientist, children’s book author, clinician and educator from Sydney, Australia. His PhD delved him into the world of investigating what people, particularly children, think about pain.

Fundraiser 'Fiver For the Floods' Exceeds Target
Fundraiser-Fiver For The Floods
The SRC would like to congratulate and thank our entire school community for their fundraising efforts last Thursday. A school target was set to raise $1000 to help individuals impacted by the destructive floods in NSW. We are very pleased to announce that the students have collectively donated $1691 to the cause. What a fantastic effort by all. Well done! Thank you to Miss Chiddy and the SRC for driving this initiative in our school.
Homework Dedication
One of our homework tasks was to make a poster showing the lifecycle of an animal. I chose to show the lifecycle of the blue bottle jellyfish as I was fascinated by it. I researched the lifecycle and then created a detailed diagram of what happens with pictures and descriptions. I really enjoyed this activity and hope to do more projects like this next term!

President’s Update
Thank you to every parent, carer and former student who have supported our school P&C through the first half of this year. We have had a great start to the year, thanks you for your help. Our P&C VP Public Relations, Aurawan, has helped me compile a very long list of all the things the P&C have achieved so far:
- Supporting student learning - new literacy curriculum supported by purchasing decodable readers, thesauruses, and curriculum-aligned literacy resources, directly supporting classroom learning. Maths made easier with new calculators for Stage 3. Gift vouchers given to each class teacher to enhance general classroom supplies.
- Events for our kids - the Welcome BBQ, Easter Egg guessing competition and the Mother’s Day Stall were a great start to the year. And we will celebrate the last week of term on Wednesday night with the much-loved annual student DISCO!!
- Fundraising fun - we've had a very chocolatey Easter Egg raffle, a successful Domino’s Dough Raiser and Election BBQ + cake and garden stalls. Plus, the fabulous James Breko hosted our Trivia Night where we had a hilarious night of trivia, games, prizes and kookaburra impersonations as we raised nearly $3000 for our school.
- Band Program - coordinating three school bands, including a successful Annual Band Workshop in May and the Performance Band's participation in the Ryde East Festival in June.
- Uniform Shop - providing new and second hand uniforms to our students, including a big second hand sale in Term 1, fitting Kindies with winter uniforms and packing online orders weekly.
- Canteen - this year saw the relaunch of weekly Canteen on Fridays to fill our student's tummies.
- Improving facilities - upgrades to the school hall, including a new clock and the planned addition of air conditioning. For fun, additional duplo and board games have been donated for wet day play, and the P&C have replaced aged soccer nets.
- Greening Our Grounds - upgrading garden beds at the Main Gate, including providing gloves and tools for student use, and a very successful Working Bee held in June to clean up the courtyard, gardens and clean out the Canteen
- Growing Our School Community - The P&C launched WhatsApp groups for all Class Parents to improve communication and community connection, with events like Tea & Tissues and the P&C Meet & Greet Afternoon Tea helping us connect with families
We are still looking for more volunteers, especially for the Band (pcband@nrps.org.au) and Uniform Shop (pcuniformshop@nrps.org.au) if you have time to assist. Please reach out to them, or to myself at pcpresident@nrps.org.au.
Enjoy the holidays and see you in Term 3!
Kerry Gill
P&C President
Long sleeve polos
Our order has been delayed by 7 weeks. I'm sorry and have been working closely with our supplier. Long sleeve polos are now due in the first week of next term.
Calling for Volunteers
The uniform shop packs and delivers uniform orders weekly. I am wanting to create a roster of parents to help me once a week, usually on a Friday morning pack the orders, it takes less than an hour at school drop-off time.
We also have random events usually once a term, like the second-hand sale and then helping new parents navigate the winter uniform and new kindergarten parents.
If you are interested and available, please email me pcuniformshop@nrps.org.au. Without volunteers the uniform shop won't be able to open.
Price Rises
Unfortunately, we are having to increase our prices on a lot of items between $1-$4 dollars. This is because our supply costs have increased substantially over the last two years. This will be the only Price rise this year and will be implemented on the first day of Term 3 (21st July 2025). Below is a list of the price increases that was agreed at the P&C Meeting on Tuesday.
Uniform shop returns and exchanges
If you have an item that you ordered that doesn't fit correctly (excluding hats), please email us. Then take it to the school office, with a note attached, asking for the item to be refunded or exchanged for size. We can exchange or refund from 30 days of purchase. Items must be unworn and still have the tags attached.

Trivia Night Wrap Up
We had a fantastic evening at the NRPS Trivia Night, hosted by the brilliant James Breko. It was non-stop fun from start to finish!
A big thank you to everyone who attended and made the effort with fancy dress and table decorations. You brought such amazing team spirit to the room.
Congratulations to all our winners — whether you scored a holiday in the auction or took home the top team prize, well done!
All our efforts on the night raised almost $3000 in fundraising for our school P&C.
To all the amazing parents, teachers, and friends of NRPS — we couldn’t have done it without you. Thank you for your enthusiasm and for making the night one to remember!
