Welcome back to Term 3!
I hope you all had a wonderful, refreshing break ready to hit the ground running as we enter into a busy term.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank Mrs Taggart for her outstanding leadership of the school in my absence. I feel so lucky to have such a capable leader to step in when needed. Thank you, Mrs Taggart!
Term 3 is always a busy term and I urge you to read our Term 3 Parent Calendar to mark off the important dates.
Our Athletics Carnival, et down for Week 2, Wednesday 30th July has now been POSTPONED due to the poor weather conditions forecast for tomorrow. We will update you when we have an alternative date. Miss Chiddy and Miss Longhitano have been working hard to organise this. As usual the staff will support them but we are also counting on the wonderful support of those parents who have volunteered to assist. My thanks go to you for your kind and helpful support.
Week 3 is Public Education Week and our Open Day will be held on Thursday 7th August. We will celebrate with an Open Day Art Expo in the Hall followed by a Picnic Lunch. We would love to see all of our parents, grandparents and carers attending and bringing lunch to share with their children.
Book Week comes along in Week 5. The Book Fair opens on Tuesday 19th August and there is a "Snuggle Up and Read" Mufti Day organised for Wednesday 20th August. The theme for the Children's Book Week in 2025 is "Book an Adventure". This theme is also celebrating 80 years of Children's Book Week in Australia. The theme encourages young readers to embark on literary journeys and explore new worlds through books.
At our School Development Day on Monday 22nd July, teaching staff updated their CPR and Anaphylaxis credentials, prepared for Term 3 and discussed routines related to the Science of Learning. We strengthened our knowledge of how explicit teaching of routines provides structure, predictability and consistency to support student learning.
There is so much more to inspire, excite and educate our students this term and I look forward to sharing news of these events with you.
Kind regards
Rob Francis
Principal
Congratulations and Good Luck to Amber Kwak
It was wonderful to hear the news that one of our students, Amber Kwak has reached the final round of the Online Marimba Competition! She will be submitting her final performance video on the 1st of September.
We congratulate Amber on her achievements and wish her every success in the final round.
School Athletics Carnival POSTPONED
Due to the current weather forecast, we’ve made the decision to postpone tomorrow’s Athletics Carnival. We know this will be disappointing for many of our students, but safety comes first. Our dedicated carnival coordinators are working hard to secure a new venue and date, and we’ll share updated details with you as soon as possible. Thank you for your understanding and support.
Public Education Day - SAVE THE DATE! - You're invited!
Save the Date!
Our Public Education Open Day is on Thursday 7th August 2025.
We'd love you to join us!
Bullying No Way Week is Australia's key bullying prevention initiative for schools. It provides an opportunity for schools to create a shared understanding about bullying behaviours and share their bullying prevention policies and strategies.
The national week of action unites government, Catholic and independent schools and their communities across the country. Together, we can foster practical approaches to prevent bullying in Australian schools.
2025 theme
The theme for 2025 is 'Be bold. Be kind. Speak up.'
It takes courage to spark change.
Bullying is everyone's responsibility. It takes a community to be brave and address bullying behaviours, within and beyond the school gate.
Students can be bold, kind and take a stand to support others being bullied, while parents and teachers are there to support children and young people learn how to behave in a positive way.
In our community and in our school, we want a place where everyone can belong, a place that celebrates everyone, and where bullying is never accepted.
This Bullying No Way Week, we're asking students, schools, families and communities to be bold and say something, be kind and support someone, and be proud to take a stand against bullying.
North Ryde Public School will be acknowledging Bullying No Way on Monday 11th August by asking students to wear purple.

President’s Update
Welcome to the back half of the year! Coming up in the next few weeks are a couple of chances for you to have your say and become involved as part of the NRPS community:
- On Tues 5th August we have a P&C meeting in the staffroom and via Teams. Come hear what we're up to and share your ideas.
- On Thurs 14th August we have Jordan Lane MP coming to our school. He's our Ryde parliamentary representative in the NSW House of Representatives. This is a great chance to ask questions you may have about local transport, school infrastructure and high schools.
A big thanks to the Cheung family who installed and tested the last of the P&C's new soccer nets on the oval in the holidays. I have it on good authority that it is much more enjoyable to play soccer now without the ball disappearing!
Lastly - the P&C needs YOU! We are in need of regular weekly help packing orders in the Uniform Shop, and more importantly we are looking for new Uniform Shop Coordinators in 2026. It can be shared with a friend or another parent, and comes with full mentoring from the 3 P&C members who have done the role in the past. We also need a new Band Coordinator in 2026 to help coordinate our 3 school bands. Please let us know if you can help with Uniform Shop or Band as the second half of the year is the perfect time to learn or transition.
Kerry Gill
P&C President
School Disco
A big thank you to everyone who came along to our School Disco at the end of last term. Judging by the kids’ excitement, big smiles, and VERY loud singing coming from the hall, it’s safe to say it was an unforgettable night.
Special thanks go to:
- Our amazing volunteers who generously gave their time on the night
- Team Kids, for kindly covering the cost of the post-disco snacks — thank you Team Kids!
- Our dedicated teachers, who stayed back in their own time to help. Their support and organisation made the night run smoothly
We couldn’t have held such a fantastic event without the wonderful support of our school community. Thanks to your involvement, the disco raised over $2,500 for our P&C fundraising efforts, which is an incredible result!
Welcome back to Term 3!

Spotlight on Stage 2
Stage 2 has been exploring the topic of persuasion in ethics class. They've been asking some big questions:
- Is it okay to exaggerate when you’re trying to persuade someone?
- What about leaving out facts that don’t support your opinion – is that fair?
- Should advertisers be allowed to use tricks to get people to buy their products?
These discussions have helped students think critically about how persuasion works in everyday life — from watching ads on TV to not telling the whole truth to get your way.
We Need More Volunteers!
Ethics classes at NRPS are growing, and we need your help!
We’re currently seeking volunteers to teach Kindergarten and Stage 3 classes. With more families choosing Ethics than ever before, we don’t have enough volunteers to meet the demand, and some students are now on a waitlist.
If you can spare 30 minutes on Thursday mornings, or know a friend or grandparent who might be interested, we’d love to hear from you.
To find out more, contact:
Liz Vrontamitis, P&C Ethics Coordinator
Training and support are provided — no teaching experience needed!

Khoi in 5/6C shared his spelling task. He attempted to use all of his spelling words in the one paragraph. Khoi’s grasp of some of the sophisticated language was particularly impressive, even more so as he is a new English learner. Well done Khoi!
Students in 1C shared their narrative writing. They wrote excellent character descriptions and attempted to solve a complication that the character had experienced.
Hamed Emtiaz - An Author in our Midst
We are so fortunate to have an author who is the parent of three students at our school. Hamed Emtiaz is an author who has written an allegory called "Louder Than Howls".
We are fortunate to have such a talented author in our school community and wish him every success with the book.
Below is the cover and synopsis of the book from the Amazon website.
In Hamed Emtiaz's captivating tale, Maya, a determined little chick, refuses to succumb to fear in the face of a terrifying demon that haunts her farm every night. Motivated by the tragic loss of her father to the creature, Maya embarks on a quest to uncover the secrets shrouding the farm's sinister connection to the demon. Emtiaz skillfully weaves a narrative of courage and defiance, urging readers to confront oppression even at the risk of everything, in a riveting exploration of tranquil tyranny.
