The wellbeing of our students is extremely important to us. One way we protect the wellbeing of your child is by fulfilling our responsibilities as both parents/carers and school staff by reporting and monitoring student absences.
Please remember to contact us on 9878 1673. This is best done early in the morning if your child is going to be away or late for school so your child’s absence can be recorded correctly and we can provide appropriate support for you and your family.

A Message from the Student Representative Council - Lost Property
Lost Property
Hello parents,
Every week, it is the SRC’s job to sort through lost property and return it to the right owners. Sadly, it has been really hard to return the lost property because the majority of the lost clothing items have no names on it.
We are asking parents to please check all school jumpers, jackets and hats belonging to your child/children to see if they have names written clearly on them. If not, could you please write your child’s name on them?
At the end of Week 4, the lost property basket contained these items without any names:
- 1 size 6 jumper
- 4 size 8 jumpers
- 2 size 12 jumpers
- 3 size 6 jackets
- 2 size 8 jackets
- 1 size 4-6 sports jacket
- 4 non-school jumpers/jackets
If your child has lost any of these items, please make sure you or they come to the office and check the lost property basket.
Many thanks,
Mason Riady and Keira Cheung
(On behalf of the SRC)

PSSA Winter Sport Results Term 3 Week 4 & 5 - Cancelled
Unfortunately, the last few weeks have seen poor weather cause the cancellation of sport. Let's hope our students can soon get back into sport with improved weather conditions very soon!
Festival of Choral Music - Endeavour Concert

Student Achievements - Zara and Walter
It is always wonderful to hear of the achievements when our students are not at school. Our congratulations go to Zara and Walter on their achievements!

Although Walter did not win the overall competition, we are incredibly proud to share that he received the special Honourable Mention Award for his outstanding creativity in his self-composed pieces. This recognition is a testament to his unique artistic talent.

Student Work - Classes 1C & 5/6B
Class 1C have been learning to write arguments.
After watching videos about the importance of bees, Ethan, Aurora and Samara wrote some compelling arguments to convince me about it.
Bees play a vital role in food production and maintaining healthy ecosystems. Bees pollinate many of the plants we rely on for food, and their well-being is closely tied to the health of the planet. Understanding bees helps children appreciate the interconnectedness of nature and the importance of conservation.
Congratulations to you all for your well-written arguments.
Jasmine in 5/6B completed a homework task to illustrate the historical event involving the landing of the British in 1788.
As you can see, the care and detail is astounding.
Congratulations on such a diligent effort, Jasmine!
Ryde Secondary College Engineering in Action workshop
Is your child in Year 5?
Have you noticed the School Bytes messages advertising Ryde Secondary Colleges After School Workshops?
James Gill in 5/6J attended the Ryde Secondary College Engineering in Action Workshop and thoroughly enjoyed it.
Below is his recount of the two sessions he attended.
Engineering workshop day 1
When I arrived at Ryde Secondary College, we walked to the sign-in desk, and we got a nametag that said our names. Then we went to a small outdoor theatre where we sat down on the benches and waited for everyone else to arrive. Then we walked around a wall single file and collected our fruit and biscuits then returned to our seats to eat our food. After that we went upstairs into a woodworking workshop. We were given wooden plane wings to colour in, design and shape. Then we were given a fuselage and we wrote our names on both pieces.
Engineering workshop day 2
We did the same routine as last week. But this time we went to a different wood workshop. There were plugs hanging from the ceiling for the hot glue guns that we used. We got the tail wings for our aeroplanes. We glued them together with hot glue which was cool. Then we finished colouring our aeroplanes and tested them out. Some of them broke but luckily mine didn’t. Some people didn’t have enough time to finish theirs, so they had either half built or half coloured models. My plane worked because I put the wings on backwards like a dogfighter. I really enjoyed it because I got to use a hot glue gun which you rarely use, I built a working wooden plane model and I got to test it.
President’s Update
Parents and carers play a vital role in our school community - through the P&C we do fundraising to support our kids' learning environment, we run events like the upcoming Father's Day Stall, and we run regular activities like the Band, Bookclub, Canteen, Ethics and organise the Uniform Shop amongst other things. It's a great way to meet other parents - I know I've enjoyed getting to know so many of you who have helped on an ad hoc or regular basis this year.
I'd encourage each of you to think of ways you can become involved over the remainder of this year and into next. There are many ways to volunteer - did you know you can jump on MySchoolConnect to see what upcoming opportunities there are to help out? We have Uniform Shop, Canteen and the Father's Day stall needing helpers this term.
The P&C are in need of specific help for 2026 in the Uniform Shop. Our Uniform Shop is run by P&C volunteers, providing new and second hand uniform options at reasonable prices and contributing funds raised directly back into the school via the P&C. Our current Uniform Shop team of Mel, Natalia and Chris have done a wonderful job over many years of running the shop. However, we are in need of a new Uniform Shop Coordinator and Uniform Shop Treasurer for 2026. The roles entail coordinating helpers to pack uniforms weekly, monitoring stock levels, ordering and unpacking stock and tracking the expenditure and sales of the Uniform Shop. The Coordinator role does require some hands-on availability, but the Treasurer role can be done remotely. If you think you could do one of these roles, or would simply like more information, please email Mel at pcuniformshop@nrps.org.au or myself at pcpresident@nrps.org.au.
As always, if you have any P&C related questions, please email. Feel free to join our North Ryde Public School P&C Facebook group to keep track of what's going on, and reach out to Aurawan at pcpr@nrps.org.au if you haven't already connected with your class parent. All these ways help you stay in touch and build the great community we have at our school.

For more information, look at the Band Program .

We need you! Become our 2026 Band Coordinator. Do you enjoy being part of the school community, or just want to lend a hand? The P&C is looking for a new Band Coordinator for 2026 and we'd love for you to join the team. No musical experience is needed - just a willingness to support our wonderful band program and help things run smoothly behind the scenes. Interested or curious? Chat with the current Band Coordinator or any P&C member to hear more.

P&C Fundraising and Events
We are fully stocked in all uniforms, including long sleeve polos and expecting more stock of sloppy Joe jumpers to arrive this week.
Thanks to Romina, Joanna, Liz, Kerry and Nicole who have helped the uniform shop in the last few weeks.
We have made an easy sign up form in My School Connect to be able to register your interest and book into helping pack, and sort orders. This happens on a Friday, usually around drop off time and takes on average 30 minutes. All or any help is appreciated, as without the support of the school parents and community we won't be able to operate the uniform shop and generate revenue for the school P and C to put back into the school for our children.

What is Primary Ethics?
At NRPS, students have the chance to take part in Primary Ethics classes instead of scripture. These lessons use age-appropriate stories and scenarios to help children think for themselves, reason through ethical questions, and have respectful discussions with their peers.
The program is carefully structured for different school stages, covers more than 100 topics, and is approved by the NSW Department of Education. Through these classes, students learn to form their own opinions, give reasons for their views, and listen thoughtfully to others — skills that benefit them across all areas of learning.
Year 2 in Focus
This term, Year 2 explored the topic: “Different kinds of animals and different kinds of needs.”
Students discussed questions such as:
What do pets need to be happy?
Do all pets need the same things?
Is it just as important to play with a pet fish as with a pet dog?
Is it okay to keep a wild animal as a pet?
These discussions helped children think about the basic needs of animals, how they differ between pets and wild animals, and why it matters to consider those needs when making choices that affect them.
We Need More Volunteers!
Ethics classes are growing at NRPS — which is great news, but it also means we need more volunteer teachers! Right now, many students are on a waitlist.
When? Just 30 minutes on Thursday mornings
Who? Parents, grandparents, or friends — no teaching experience required
Support? Full training and ongoing support are provided
If you’d like to get involved (or know someone who might), please contact Liz Vrontamitis at pcethics@nrps.org.au

P&C Update: Meeting with Jordan Lane MP on 14th August 2025
Jordan Lane MP recently met with our parent community to share updates and hear parent concerns. Topics covered included:
- Education – school capacity continues to be a key issue. New primary schools are planned for the area (including Midtown Macquarie Park and Lachlans Line). Until the proposed Lachlans Line school progresses, Ryde Secondary College remains the only high school for the area.
- Community Facilities & Grants – Opportunities to improve local facilities were discussed, along with possible projects that could be supported through Community Building Partnership grants.
- Transport – The need for a direct bus service to Macquarie Park remains on the agenda. While driver shortages have eased, bus availability is still linked to the completion of the Macquarie Park Bus Depot.
Jordan will continue to follow up on these issues and we will look to provide future opportunities for more parent and school community engagement.
If you would like specific details on the topics covered, please reach out to pcpr@nrps.org.au for more information.
